Lung conditions can be serious and ranges from bronchitis, pneumonia and asthma to chronic lung diseases such as emphysema. Some severe breathing symptoms may require lung function tests, X-rays and more to diagnose the problem. Physiotherapy is especially effective in loosening phlegm in the lungs and improving breathing.
After listening to your chest, checking x-rays and evaluating the patient, the physiotherapists’ treatment might consist of ultrasonic nebulisation with medication prescribed by your doctor (inhaling medication broken up in a “steam” by a nebulising apparatus), postural drainage (lying in certain positions to drain pleghm from certain affected segments of the lungs), percussioning (clapping over the ribcagee to loosen pleghm), vibration and breathing exercises.
